Egg crocks November 2008
We had 20 hens from the broiler flock that we hadn’t processed when they started to lay on September 26, 2008. We’d been told that 1. because of the rocky start they had, they might not lay, 2. if they laid, they would not lay well, and 3. they probably wouldn’t lay because of the shortening daylight. But no one told the hens. By mid November we had 23 dozen eggs in the fridge, and no way to get rid of them. We were getting up to 20 eggs a day.
