Cold frame into cabbage root cellar November 2009

coldframeintocabbagerootcellarnovember2009.jpg

An experiment in storing cabbage over the winter. I took 2 2" x 3" and screwed them length wise in the top if the cold frame. Then I hung upside down cabbages still on stalks. I dusted them with DE and then put a piece of plywood across the top, then the hay bales.

Not a success. First off, the bales froze together when they got wet. So we could not open the top. Second, it was way too cold again this year for this type of storage to work. So raising cabbage to store is scratched off the list.
