Bert acquired a partner in crime. If we had a Bert, then the next one had to be Ernie (Ernestine), right? So Ernie is out every day.
One day David found an egg by the cat bowl. He couldn't remember putting it there, but who knows with the brainfog. But the next day, there's another one. He knows he didn't put that one there.
So he keeps his eye peeled, and discovers it's Ernie. She guards the cat food from the cats, takes her time laying her egg, and terrorizes the cats. Why she'd pick a bare board to lay on is beyond us. You can see her egg near the cat dish.
