The winter coop - the grain box and Purry October 2008

thewintercoopthegrainboxandpurryoctober2008.jpg

When the first egg was found on September 26, the remaining broilers (all hens) instantly became layers. This meant figuring out a winter coop and pen.

The 10' x 10' grain room was picked, due to its access to water, electric, and an area suitable for a pen. It originally had a grain bin, of 2 sections, that extended down on side. We removed the larger section (to be recycled as laying boxes and walls [see wall behind Purry]) and left the small one for chicken feed storage.

Also it was the cats' feeding area. David put cleats on the bin top so the cats could get up more easily.
